Final Thesis Introduction Requirements

Introduction is one of the most important parts of the work, which primarily reflects the quality of learning. It’s like a business card. Introduction to Master’s Thesis is the basis for all the sections described below. Sometimes it is ironic that evaluators read only two parts: introduction and conclusions.

In the introduction to the final thesis, the student first shows how he / she is operating in terms of the most important scientific categories: whether he / she assigns a work goal from work tasks, a job object from a work subject, or is able to perceive and raise problems, what literature has been analyzed at work.

  • The introduction should not be greatly expanded and / or overloaded with excess, usually non-conceivable, phrases. It is enough to have 2-4 A4 final paper introductions.
  • The introduction to the Master’s or other final thesis should answer the following key questions:

What is the object of this work?

What are the aims of this work and what are the problems (for example, what problem (s) do we intend to address and solve in this work)?
Why do the goals set at work need to be pursued (for example, why should a given area be improved, why a particular situation needs to be investigated more thoroughly)?
What will be the stages of the Master’s or other graduation thesis you are writing to achieve your goals?
How will the goals be achieved?
What exactly will be beneficial if the set goals are achieved (for example, who and what will be the proposals and recommendations)?

It is very important to write the introduction so that after reading it you can get an overview of the whole work. Thus, the introduction of the Master’s thesis usually reveals and justifies the novelty of the master’s thesis topic and the relevance of the research: the theoretical and practical significance of the work is emphasized; overviews the essential research sources used in the work, discusses the theoretical literature concerning the problem and introduces the structure of the work, theoretical assumptions of the work are discussed and the methodology (research methods) is presented, hypotheses can be raised and the relevance of the work from the practical aspect is also evaluated; reveals actualization of the chosen topic in social and / or other research environment, etc.

The introduction also outlines the problem of the research carried out and the object of the study. In addition, when revealing the relevance of the topic, it is necessary to define the research problem. In the introduction it is advisable to use the following type of sentences: “The object of this work is….”, “The purpose of this work is…”.

Methodological guidance specifies the content and boundaries of the introduction, but in summary it can be emphasized that the introduction of the Master’s Thesis must be clearly formulated: the purpose of the research, the object of the research, the subject of the research, the tasks, the question or questions of the research can also be raised.
As the object of the research, the student determines the direction of his / her research, and the subject of the research narrows and specifies the object of the research.

The aim of the research must be inextricably linked to the desired outcome and correspond to the essence of the subject of the Master’s thesis research.
The introduction should include specific research objectives, the results of which will have to be reflected in the conclusions of the master’s thesis. It is advisable to number the tasks and conclusions raised at work.
The introduction should briefly discuss the methodology of the study (the applied research methods are discussed) and the reasoned work structure. As already mentioned, the introduction volume is no more than 4 pages (5-10% of the master’s thesis volume).

It should be emphasized that every statement in the introduction must be reasoned and logically linked to the statement before it. In addition, thought must be integrated into the general context of introductory teaching.
In such a situation, when several authors write a scientific or final work, the introduction should indicate the contribution of each author to the work, if it is possible to distinguish between authorship by section or other structural or feature aspect.
